When I first started blogging, I have looked on the internet trying to find articles that showed you how to start a blog for free, and I couldn’t find any, so I decided to write one myself. Today I’ll give you the ultimate guide for starting a blog.
The first thing when it comes to blogging is knowing what you are interested in. Are you into fashion, makeup, DIYs? Anything is possible in the blogging world, so just pick the topic you are interested in. The last thing you need is not knowing what to post since you chose a subject that is unfamiliar to you.
Choose a blogging platform. This is crucial since there are many platforms out there. I have used WordPress, Weebly, and Blogger. For my main blog, I use Weebly since it has a smooth interface. As you can tell I use WordPress for the community. Do your research when it comes to choosing a platform/ host and choose the one the works for you. Personally, I would prefer WordPress or Weebly. Weebly is known for their user-friendly interface, but it isn’t has catered towards bloggers as it is with website building, so if you are looking for just a blogging host then I suggest WordPress. Comment down below If you want me to do a pros and cons comparison for each one of them.
Create the blog. This is pretty obvious. I find this step to be pretty fun especially with Weebly. This is where you mold your blog to match your personality, so be as creative as you want to be.
Social Media. I suggest creating an account on Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Tumblr, and others for your blog. You want to be as active as possible and follow people who are in your niche. Be active on other people’s blog as well, this way people start to recognize your blog name.
Be consistent. Google has a tendency to favor blogs that update at least twice a week. I would also suggest making your blog above 500 words since it ranks higher on Google searches.
Track your blog. Create a google webmaster and google analytics account for your blog. This way you could know what search terms your readers are typing in to get to your blog. You can also learn about what blogs attract readers, and at what time users tend to stop reading. You want your readers to stay on your blog longer.
Make the intro creative. This kind of ties in with the previous tip. You want to make your blog intro interesting so your reader will stay longer. Usually, readers will read a couple of sentences before deciding if they want to continue or not.
Stay motivated. Sometimes it can be hard to blog, but just remember the reason why you started the blog.
Create a schedule. Let your readers know what days you will be blogging and on what topics.
Finally, just go start blogging.
Below is a video on how to create a WordPress.com website. The final message I have is DON’T GIVE UP! Sometimes you can be blogging for weeks and not see a single comment, but don’t let that discourage you. With time your blog will gain readers.
