What is a favicon?
Favicon also known as a shortcut icon, website icon, tab icon, URL icon or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more small icons most commonly 16×16 pixels, associated with a particular website or web page. (Wikipedia.com). Basically, a favicon is a little icon in the corner of the tab. Like WordPress has the W, Facebook as the blue F, and I have the black TW.
Why do you need it?
It’s a really a good way to make your blog or website look more polished. A favicon doesn’t necessarily mean logo, but most use their logos. In my case since my logo is the yellow rose and the words “The talk with moi”, I felt it was a bit lengthy, so I used TW which stands for the “The Talk With Moi”.
Creating a one
Now as you know I use WordPress.com for this community and I have not figured out a way to upload my favicon icon on here, but I do know if you have a Weebly (starter pack or above), blogger, or WordPress.org blog or website, you can add it simply by clicking add favicon in your settings.
Update: The free version of WordPress.com does not allow you to upload a favicon. For WordPress.org, I have a plugin called Favicon generator this will eliminate your need to use an online version one.
The process in creating a favicon is actually pretty simple compared to my other blog tutorials. The first thing you will need to do is go to Picmonkey (or any other website or app that allows you to design. Canva is free.) and design your favicon. Do make sure you make the pixels 16 by 16. (The generators usually resize it, but it would just make everything look smooth.) After you are satisfied with your design, go over to any favicon generator website. You can simply type in Favicon generator into google and you will find several sites that will create your favicon.
Of course, to those of you who are visual learners, I have included a video that shows you step by step on how to create your own favicon for your website.
I hope you guys found this simple tutorial helpful. As always comment down below what blog tips/ tutorials I should do next. If have questions, please do feel free to let me know.
