In a blogging community a niche is something that everyone discusses. When I first started creating my blog, I looked around the internet for “How to” guides to teach me the ropes, and one of the main things that every “How to” guide talked about is having a niche. They stressed that choosing your niche is the first thing that you should do. Before I tell you whether or not I have a niche, Let’s first discuss what a niche is.
A niche has couple of definitions. The first is “a shallow recess, especially one in a wall to display a statue or other ornament.”(Google) Well as you can see that definition has nothing to do with blogging. The second definition states niche is “pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific appeal.”(Dictionary.com)
Do I have a niche?
I like to say I followed the “How to be a blogger” guide very well except for the fact, I couldn’t choose a niche. Some people make it sound like it’s the easiest thing, but It isn’t. I researched some blogging niches, and I wanted my blog to include a little bit of everything. I just didn’t want to be a fashion blogger, or a food blogger. No I wanted to have a blog with a diverse posts. I wanted my blog not to specialize in a certain types of posts. I felt like having a niche made me not be myself, because I’m not a girl with just one interests. I’m a girl who likes to do a variety of things, and I feel like if I have a niche you guys as my readers get to only see one side of me.
I want my blog to reflect all sides of me. The girl that’s happy, the girl that is sometimes sad, the girl who likes to play different games etc. I truly believe bloggers shouldn’t not worry about finding a niche. They should worry about making their blog real. A blog should be written from the “heart”. There is nothing wrong with being a professional blogger, and I think most of us want to be a professional blogger later on but If you are starting out like me don’t worry about niches. I think once you continue to blog, you’ll start to see somethings are popular and others aren’t. You also start to see that you enjoy doing certain types of blog over others. That’s when you should start to specialize. Specializing when you are just starting out just kills your creativity.
